Welcome to the Course News area of the Members website.

The Club's panoramic 18 hole course on top of the Downs offers a unique and intriguing challenge to golfers of all abilities, having been dramatically changed and improved since the Club was founded in 1889.

At 5,780 yards the course offers a wide variety of traditional downland holes, with no two holes alike. From some tees the hole seems tight through trees whereas others seem more open but the undulating fairways and greens ensure that good concentration and application are required. Many say that the course at Epsom is a great leveler because guile and skill replace the ability to drive balls a long way as on many modern courses. However, it is Epsom’s greens that are legend. Consistent and very true, they offer a very demanding test because of their mixture of surprising speed and undulation. Only the 18th green can boast to be level and it is also the only hole at Epsom to feature bunkers.

The Downs form a natural topography for golf, presenting a course as nature intended, full of character and challenging golfers to use a full repertoire of shots. The subsoil is chalk so drainage is fantastic and golf is often played here when other courses are closed.

Whilst being a club that embraces golfs traditional values and having a heritage to be proud of, it is not a club stuck in the past, the excellent condition of the course is fundamental and of the utmost importance to the club and its members, we therefore recognise the necessity for improvements. Our course investment plan has included redesigning the 1st tee, installation of new pathways, numerous tee box improvements, new improved machinery and more recently the proposed re-design of the 18th green.  The level of effort and skill required to maintain and improve the course is immense and we are very grateful to our fantastic team of green-keepers for managing to achieve this.

The Course Committee welcome all opinions and we discuss all feedback at the committee meetings, should you have any feedback or information you would like to discuss please let us know.
