Epsom’s Junior section has always been an important part of the club, and through the Junior Organiser and his enthusiastic team of members, the section is growing.
Epsom was the first Club in Southern England to be awarded the prestigious English Golf Partnership award of the GolfMark for excellence in developing and conducting its Junior section. This was complemented the following year when the Club was the first in the country to be awarded the ClubMark by Sport England.
The section is headed up by our Junior Captain, who has been a member of the Junior section for a number of years. Members are encouraged to participate in Junior club matches and once the boys reach a handicap of 12 they are invited to play in the Men’s events, 28 handicap for the girls to play in Ladies events. Epsom’s successful Junior members play in competitions such as the English Schools Championships and The Juniors Under 14 Rookie Tour, and one Captained the County Under 14’s in 2015.
The Junior section is open to boys and girls between the age of 6 and 18 years, and to help advance players of all abilities the Club has a structured coaching programme. The programme is conducted by a team of trained Junior Leaders assisting the Club's PGA Professional, who also delivers Golf Foundation Award coaching for the Junior Golf Passport to non-club youngsters.
Lessons are an hour on Saturday and Sunday mornings, classes are of a mixed age and ability. The programme is a fun and enjoyable introduction to golf, with games & challenges that stimulate their golf learning, an ideal springboard for joining as a Junior member.
If you are interested in your child joining the Junior section, or would like them to try a group coaching session, no experience or equipment required, we would be delighted to talk to you and invite them to join a session free of charge.
