Welcome to the Course News area of the Members’ website.

The Club's panoramic 18 hole course on top of the Downs offers a unique and intriguing challenge to golfers of all abilities, having been dramatically changed and improved since the Club was founded in 1889.

Whilst a relatively short course at 5,780 yards, don’t be fooled and think you are in for an easy ride. Perched on the top of Epsom Downs, the course offers a wide variety of traditional downland holes married with a plethora of superb views where on a clear day you can see the Wembley arch and iconic buildings in the heart of London.  No two holes are alike. From some tees you drive through an avenue of mature trees whereas others seem more open but the undulating fairways ensure that good concentration, skill and application are required where brain definitely rules over brawn. The course at Epsom is a great leveller for golfers of all abilities because guile and skill replace the ability to drive balls a long way as on many modern courses. The course will test your short game where a variety of different shots are required and putting on the legendary Epsom greens will test your ability with the flatstick. Consistent and very true, the greens offer a very demanding test because of their mixture of surprising speed and undulation with the 18th green the only level green on the course.

The subsoil is chalk so drainage is fantastic and golf is often played here when other courses are closed.

Whilst being a club that embraces golf’s traditional values and having a heritage to be proud of, it is not a club stuck in the past. The excellent condition of the course is fundamental and of the utmost importance to the Club and its members, whilst at the same time recognising the necessity for improvements. Our course investment plan has included installation of new pathways, the removal of the bunkers by the 18th green to be replaced with new mounded grass areas and a grass bunker, an enlarged 4th tee area and ongoing improvements to the irrigation system. The level of effort and skill required to maintain and improve the course is immense and we are very grateful to our fantastic team of green-keepers and volunteers for managing to achieve this. This commitment shown by our green-keepers and volunteers has resulted in the course being ranked 14th in the recent Golf World magazine survey of the best-value golf courses in Britain and Ireland you can play for under £35. We are extremely proud to have achieved this accolade.

The Course Committee welcomes all opinions and we discuss all feedback at the committee meetings. Should you have any feedback or information you would like to discuss please let us know.
